Dripping Bleeding Wax Candles

9

Add a dramatic, gothic atmosphere to your dining table or fireplace mantel with candles that appear to bleed bright red wax as they burn. This incredibly simple yet highly effective DIY project takes standard white pillar or taper candles and turns them into macabre showpieces. They look especially striking when grouped together on tarnished silver candelabras or rustic wooden blocks.

To create this chilling effect, purchase a few inexpensive bright white candles and one vibrant red candle. Light the red candle and hold it at an angle over the white candles, allowing the melting red wax to drip slowly down the sides of the white wax. Control the drips to create long, running streams and thick pools of “blood” near the base. Once the red wax cools and hardens, it leaves behind a permanent, realistic dripping pattern. When you light the main white candles during your Halloween gatherings, the effect becomes even more dynamic as the heat continues to melt the layered wax.
