Aged Gothic Book of Spells
Every witch needs a ancient, leather-bound book of spells to display proudly on their coffee table or reading desk. This craft allows you to transform a cheap, hardcover thrift store book into a heavy, ancient tome complete with raised cover designs, weathered pages, and mysterious magical symbols. It is a highly satisfying tactile project that looks like a valuable antique movie prop once finished.
Take a thick, hardcover book and open it to the middle, gluing the pages down in a slightly wavy, natural-looking drape using Mod Podge. To create the cover, use hot glue to draw raised designs on the front—such as a crescent moon, an eye, or Celtic knots. Lay a damp paper towel or a piece of thin tissue paper over the hot glue designs and the cover, pressing it down into the crevices with a brush to create a wrinkled, leathery texture. Once dry, paint the entire cover black, then lightly brush metallic gold or bronze acrylic paint over the raised areas to highlight the incredible texture and make it look like embossed, aged leather.
