Delicate Wire-Mesh Hanging Phantoms

12

Take your outdoor decorations to the next level with life-sized, sculptural phantoms made from lightweight wire mesh or chicken wire. When placed on your lawn, nestled among trees, or suspended from branches, these sculptures look incredibly realistic and eerie. Because chicken wire is highly reflective in low light, these figures appear as shimmering, semi-translucent, three-dimensional spirits that seem to materialize out of the night fog.

Using a roll of flexible chicken wire and protective work gloves, carefully mold the mesh around a mannequin, a friend, or your own body to capture the shape of a head, torso, and long, flowing gown. Press and crimp the wire to create realistic folds, drapes, and a sense of movement in the skirt. Once the shape is complete, remove it from the mold and join the pieces together. Spray the finished sculpture with a light coat of glow-in-the-dark or metallic silver paint to help it catch the moonlight, creating a breathtaking, museum-quality yard display.
