Ghostly Cheesecloth Specters
Create ethereal, semi-translucent figures that look like they are floating through your hallways or garden. By using fabric stiffener and inexpensive cheesecloth, you can mold three-dimensional, hollow ghosts that hold their shape completely on their own. Because they are translucent, placing a small, battery-operated tea light or a string of micro-fairy lights underneath them makes them glow from within, casting spooky, delicate shadows across your walls.
To construct these haunting figures, build a temporary armature using a plastic bottle for the body, a balloon or foam ball for the head, and wire coat hangers for the arms. Drape several layers of cheesecloth soaked in fabric stiffener or diluted white school glue over the armature, arranging the fabric to drape and pool elegantly at the bottom. Once the glue dries completely overnight, the cheesecloth will become stiff and rigid. Carefully pop the balloon and slide the armature out from underneath, leaving behind a freestanding, hollow, whisper-thin ghost that is ready to haunt your home.
