Whimsical Jack-o’-Lantern Topiary
If you prefer your Halloween decor to be bright, welcoming, and full of classic autumn charm, a front porch pumpkin topiary is the perfect project. By stacking painted or carved faux pumpkins on top of one another in a vertical column, you create an eye-catching, space-saving statement piece that frames your front door beautifully. Using artificial pumpkins ensures you can enjoy this cheerful display year after year without worrying about decay.
To construct the topiary, select three or four craft pumpkins in graduating sizes. Cut a hole through the center of the bottom and top of each pumpkin. Insert a sturdy wooden dowel or metal rod into a heavy decorative planter filled with soil or gravel to act as your stable base. Thread the pumpkins onto the rod from largest to smallest. You can carve friendly faces into the pumpkins and run a string of warm white LED lights through the center, or paint them in coordinating autumn shades with elegant leaf motifs for a sophisticated harvest look.
