20. Cardboard Tube Fire-Breathing Dragons

20

While not a traditional monster, a fire-breathing dragon fits perfectly into the whimsical, fantasy side of Halloween. This interactive craft doubles as a fun toy that encourages toddlers to practice deep breathing. By blowing into the back of the tube, they can make the tissue paper “fire” flutter and dance, creating a delightful cause-and-effect play experience.

Have your toddler paint a toilet paper roll green or red. Glue two medium pompoms near one end for eyes, and two smaller pompoms near the tip for nostrils. Glue long strips of red, orange, and yellow tissue paper to the inside of the opposite end of the tube. Show your toddler how to take a deep breath and blow through the open end of the tube, making the fiery tissue paper streamers fly and flicker like real dragon breath.
