12. Yarn-Wrapped Cardboard Pumpkins

12

Yarn wrapping is an excellent activity for developing a toddler’s fine motor strength and hand-eye coordination. This simple cardboard pumpkin craft provides a sturdy base for little fingers to wrap colorful yarn around, resulting in a lovely textured decoration. The repetitive motion of wrapping is highly calming and satisfying for young children.

Cut out a simple pumpkin shape from a thick piece of recycled cardboard. Cut small notches around the edges of the pumpkin to help hold the yarn in place. Tie a long strand of thick orange yarn to the cardboard, and show your toddler how to wind the yarn across and around the shape, catching it in the notches. Once the pumpkin is covered in cozy orange threads, tuck a green pipe cleaner stem into the top to finish the look.
