6. Fluid Acrylic Pouring
Acrylic pouring is a mesmerizing, abstract technique that has taken the internet by storm, and it requires absolutely no drawing skills whatsoever. The process involves mixing acrylic paints with a pouring medium (and sometimes a few drops of silicone oil) to make them fluid and runny. You then layer these colors into a single cup and literally pour them onto the canvas. By tilting the canvas in different directions, the colors glide over one another, creating beautiful cells, lacing patterns, and marble-like swirls.
There are many variations of this technique, such as the “dirty pour,” where the cup is flipped directly onto the canvas, or the “Dutch pour,” which uses a hairdryer to blow the paint into delicate, feathery petals. Because the paint moves freely, every single pour is completely unique. It is a fantastic way for beginners to experiment with color interaction, gravity, and fluid dynamics, resulting in an eye-catching, glossy masterpiece that looks like a slice of natural agate or a distant nebula.
