16. Abstract Galaxy and Star Constellations

Painting the cosmos is a wonderful way to practice blending dark, rich colors and creating depth. Start by painting your canvas with a base of deep black and dark navy blue. While this base is wet, sponge on patches of deep purple, vibrant magenta, and bright teal, blending the edges softly into the black background so they look like glowing celestial clouds of gas.
To create the stars, load a stiff brush with white paint diluted with a little water. Hold the brush over the canvas and tap the handle firmly against your hand, sending a shower of tiny white splatters across the dark background. You can paint a few larger stars with a fine detail brush, adding a small crosshair light flare. To personalize the piece, use a metallic silver pen to connect some of the stars into your favorite zodiac constellation, creating a meaningful and beautiful piece of cosmic art.
