20. Earthy Terrazzo Patterns
Terrazzo is a classic Italian composite material used for floors and walls, characterized by its playful speckled appearance of marble, quartz, and granite chips. You can easily recreate this stylish, mid-century pattern on canvas. Start by painting your background a solid, warm neutral color, such as cream, beige, or soft terracotta. This clean background will make your terrazzo “chips” stand out beautifully.
Next, use a small flat brush to paint random, irregular geometric shapes across the canvas. The shapes should look like broken shards of stone—some triangular, some rounded, and some completely asymmetrical. Use a curated color palette of four or five complementary colors, such as sage green, mustard, rust, and charcoal. Distribute the shapes evenly, leaving plenty of background space between them.
