18. Velvet-Wrapped Pumpkin Patch
Create a luxurious, cozy autumn display with a collection of handmade velvet-wrapped pumpkins. This craft is an excellent way to use up fabric scraps and can be made in any size. Cut a circle of plush velvet fabric, place a handful of polyester fiberfill stuffing and some dried beans or rice (for weight) in the center, and sew a simple running stitch around the edge of the fabric circle. Pull the thread tight to gather the fabric into a pumpkin shape, and knot it securely.
To create the realistic ridges of a pumpkin, wrap thick embroidery floss or twine around the gathered fabric, pulling tightly from the bottom to the top center to indent the sides. Finish the pumpkin by hot-gluing a real, dried pumpkin stem or a piece of twisted cinnamon stick to the top. Arrange a cluster of these soft, tactile pumpkins in varying shades of sage, cream, mustard, and terracotta on your dining table for a warm, inviting look.
