11. Haunted Portrait Gallery Wall
Create a chilling focal point in your home by transforming an ordinary wall into a haunted portrait gallery. Search thrift stores for ornate, vintage picture frames, and paint them in dark, moody shades like charcoal grey, deep navy, or matte black. Print out vintage, black-and-white or sepia-toned portraits from the Victorian or Edwardian eras. To add a spooky twist, use a fine paintbrush and red acrylic paint to add subtle glowing red eyes to the figures, or paint faint, ghostly silhouettes fading into the background behind them.
Arrange the framed portraits in a dense, asymmetrical gallery wall layout. To heighten the haunted house atmosphere, drape the entire collection with stretchy spiderwebs, allowing the webbing to cling to the corners of the frames. Nestles a few faux spiders within the webs and place battery-operated candles on a console table below to cast flickering light upward, making the eyes in the portraits seem to watch guests as they walk past.
