6. Intermediate Level: Slab-built Planters

Overview

Slab-building allows potters to create geometric shapes and designs, making it perfect for creating planters.

Steps

  1. Roll out flat slabs of clay and cut them into rectangles for the sides.
  2. Assemble the pieces by scoring and using slip, forming a box-like structure.
  3. Add drainage holes to the bottom.
  4. Decorate the surface with textures or carvings.
  5. Allow to dry, then fire and glaze.
