3. Advanced Level: Wheel-Thrown Bowls

Overview

Using a pottery wheel can seem daunting, but it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Wheel-thrown bowls allow for smooth shapes and designs.

Steps

  1. Center a ball of clay on the wheel.
  2. Press down and pull the clay up to create the walls of the bowl.
  3. Shape and refine the edges with your hands or tools.
  4. Trimming the foot gives the bowl a finished look.
  5. Allow it to dry, then bisque fire and glaze.
