5. Haunted Mirror with Ghostly Apparition
Turn an ordinary thrift store mirror into a terrifyingly beautiful portal to the spirit world. A haunted mirror craft relies on clever visual trickery to make a ghostly figure appear to be trapped just beneath the glass surface. Find a vintage-style mirror with an ornate, detailed frame—the more tarnished and detailed, the better. Remove the back of the mirror to expose the glass. Using a chemical mirror stripping technique or carefully scraping away sections of the silver backing with steel wool and paint stripper, you will create a semi-transparent window. Print a ghostly, vintage portrait in black and white or sepia tones, and place it directly behind the stripped area. When you reassemble the mirror, the figure will look like a faded, misty apparition dwelling within the glass, only visible from certain angles and under specific lighting.
