11. Vintage Mercury Glass Skull Jars
If you love the look of antique, metallic decor, these DIY mercury glass skull jars are a must-try. Using a skull-shaped glass jar (often found at craft stores during the fall season), you can create a gorgeous, reflective finish that looks like expensive antique silver. The secret to this technique is using Looking Glass mirror spray paint and a spray bottle filled with a half-and-half mixture of water and white vinegar. Spray the inside of the jar lightly with the vinegar mixture, then immediately spray a thin coat of the mirror paint over it.
As the paint dries, the vinegar droplets prevent it from adhering completely, creating a beautiful, speckled, distressed metallic look. Once dry, gently blot the interior with a paper towel to remove the water droplets, revealing a stunning, aged mercury glass finish. When lit from within by a warm LED light, the distressed metallic surface glows with an antique, mysterious brilliance that looks incredibly luxurious.
