2. Wooden Plank Scratchboard

Overview

A more durable option, this scratcher uses wooden planks covered with sisal rope to provide a sturdy scratching surface.

Materials Needed

  • Wooden plank (size: approximately 24″x6″)
  • Sisal rope (about 150 feet)
  • Staple gun
  • Non-toxic wood stain or paint (optional)
  • Screws and wall anchors (if mounting on the wall)

Instructions

  1. Sand the wooden plank to smooth edges.
  2. Stain or paint the wood if desired; let dry completely.
  3. Wrap the sisal rope around the plank lengthwise, securing with staples at each end.
  4. Wrap multiple layers for a thicker scratching surface.
  5. Mount the plank on the wall or place it on the floor for your cat to scratch.
